Timişoara is located in the northwest of Romania. The center of the city is almost completely restored and is characterized by many cafes, restaurants and bars, which also leads to a relaxed atmosphere in the evenings. Timișoara is also called “Little Vienna”, which comes from Timișoara’s long historical affiliation with the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Timișoara is the European Capital of Culture 2023 and lives up to this name. Every week there are art installations in the city and many other cultural events take place. Although the city has more than 300,000 inhabitants, you can still find your way around very easily. Through Timişoara flows a canal called Bega along which there are many parks, various clubs, restaurants and also swimming pools, volleyball and tennis courts. So the perfect place for a sunny day at the weekend. A little fun fact about Timișora: actor Darko Peric, who plays the role of Helsinki in the series House of Money, was a medical student in Timişoara.

Romania itself has many destinations like Cluj-Napoca, Sibiu and Bucharest. But also capitals like Belgrade and Budapest would be quickly accessible during the semester, as they are only about 3 hours away by car. The best way to get to Timișoara is by plane, the airport is about 15 minutes away from the city center. It is served by several airlines, the most important of which are: Lufthansa, Eurowings and WizzAir.
